BONIFACE FOR LOVE

Boniface has taken the brave step of sharing an unpolished demo of new single ‘For Love’. It bears the hallmarks of this Winnipeg artist's early singles, which portrayed a close-to-home narrative of love and heartbreak, something which this gentle piano song shares. Micah Visser plays beautifully, with true passion, while the sound of feet on the floorboards, creaking on the piano stool and police sirens adds a three dimensional aspect to this original recording. Giving the listener an even great sense of this song, Visser comments that “I had no idea how biographical this song was when writing — at the time I thought I was feeling really positive about things, but sat down at a piano and wrote this song that kind of broke my heart. I wrote it about a year ago in London & forgot about it until we started thinking about a B side. One night I was listening to old voice memos and this one kind of freaked me out— the intimacy and honesty in it even though I couldn’t have admitted it when writing.” ‘For Love’ is the unlikely b-side to the poppy, feel-good ‘Phantom Limbs’, of which we recently shared the music video directed by the songwriter’s brother Joey Visser, but at the same time, it sounds so very true to the sound and intentions of Boniface. - Hannah Thacker
